Since childhood Karthik Bhat has been a dedicated student of art. He initially started his artistic journey towards learning Tabla at the age of 10, under the tutelage of Pandit Rajgopal Kallurkar at Kallur Mahalaxmi Tabla Vidyalaya located at Bengaluru. To further his knowledge in Tabla , he continued to train under the guidance of Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar at Bombay. His interest in Carnatic concepts paved way to learn most intricate and complex calculations under the guidance of Mrudangam Vidwan A.V.Anand. This helps him present unique set of compositions by blending Hindustani and Carnatic styles.

Karthik Bhat is a graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, Bengaluru. He has completed Sangeet Alankar with distinction securing all India first rank from Akhil Bharathiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Meeraj, Maharashtra. He has also completed Vidwat examination conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB).

AWARDS:

1. ​International Foundation for Fine Arts honoured Karthik with “Promising Artist Award” at Bombay in the year 2014. He was blessed to receive this award from Ustad Zakir Hussain.

2. He has secured all India second rank in Tabla competition conducted by All India Radio, 2014.

3. He won bronze medal in 17th National Youth Festival, 2012, conducted by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

4. “Kishora Prathibhe Award” was conferred upon him by the Kannada and Culture department recognising as young talent in Tabla in the year 2007.

5. He has been bestowed with Ustad Inam Ali Puraskar, Shrimati Susheela Bai Kogje Puraskar, Shrimati Sharadha Bai Nathu Puraskar, Shri Gurudevji Patwardhan Puraskar, HariOm trust Vaadya Pratham Puraskar by Akhil Bharathiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal for securing first rank in Sangeet Alankar among all categories and also in Tabla category.

Karthik has performed at various prestigious stages like Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan at Pune, Sangeet Research academy at Bombay, Mylapore Fine Arts Festival at Chennai, Percussive Arts Centre at Bengaluru, Mysore Dasara Festival at Mysore, Vishwasahitya Sammelan, Belgaum etc.

He was fortunate to accompany various eminent artists like Kaushiki Chakraborty (at Shankar Mahadevan Academy’s annual Festival Sangam in 2019), Hariharan (Sangam in 2018), Shankar Mahadevan, Bombay Sisters, Vidwan. Sriram Parashuram. In the field of cinema and light music, Karthik has accompanied renowned artists like P.B.Srinivas, Rathnamala Prakash, M.D. Pallavi, Sangeeta Katti, Anuradha Sriram, Adnan Sami. In the field of dance, he has worked with eminent Kathak artists like Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Ranjendra Gangani, etc.

 

Apart from being a performing artist for over a decade now, he has also been tutoring students in Tabla from beginner to advanced level.

Karthik is a core member of band named "Ateetam".

His love for percussion has made him explore and experiment with other instruments like Cajon, Darbuka, Djambe, Pakhawaj and Dholak.

Karthik has performed in 2000+ live concerts, in Doordarshan, other regional channels and has been a part of various music albums. His versatility in playing for various genres like classical, semi-classical, contemporary, filmy has brought him lot of accolades.
